Planttreesaveplanet.com donated £100 towards this project in South Africa in spring 2009
The project is being run by www.howglobal.org who set up community hubs in developing countries focusing on the provision of fresh water and the resultant wider benefits of that including health and being able to grow and plant trees and food. You can see further information on how they work at their website. The Mariathal Combined Mission School of 1700 students (Sisonke District, Carisbrooke Primary Green Community Hub) South Africa
The property has great potential with many tanks on the property yet they depend on the mission as their water source. This leaves the school without water much of the time and causes a shortage of water that leads to the sinks not working, food gardens not be able to flourish and students leaving school in search of water.
This school has children who live on the school grounds. The mission school is danger of being closed down because of the water situation. This leaves children with no place to live. The project is extending pipes so that the school has it’s own water source. It will hook up sinks and extend pipes to reach the gardens so that trees and food can be grown.
A new electric pump will be put in allowing both the school and community to have a water source at a close and safe location. Setting up a food garden will allow all of the orphans of this community to have food security. In the developing countries, school and clinics are the places that children find as their safe haven. Planttreesaveplanet.com donated £100 towards the provision of tree seeds and/or establishing the greenhouse areas
The children in the Sisonke District work to build the greenhouse shade. This will be used to create seedling projects for the orphans and the surrounding community so that they may start their own gardens at home. The food gardens are now winning awards in the region. The foods and seeds are given to the orphans of the surrounding community where there is a shortage of both food and water. Homes have no electric or running water. They depend on charity of the government for their food – www.howglobal.org encourages self reliance as a part of its programmes.
