Mount Kenya
In 2005 planttreesaveplanet.com donated £500 to start a tree nursery
on Mount Kenya where big international timber companies had stripped
the mountain side of trees leaving considerable damage and disrupting
local forest based food sources.
The local people living at 9,000 feet on the mountain are on the
very edge of survival and needed support to help them re-afforest,
prevent further soil erosion to enable them to be self sufficient. |
| Mount Kenya News - summer 2007
The leader of a church in Kibirichia near Mt Kenya, has explained
that the community there are planting 1000 seedlings (cedar,
eucalyptus).
As they mature they will sold to farmers to help reforest the slopes
of the mountain. We hope to get some pictures in the next few months.
Our contacts in Mount Kenya pass on their thanks for your help. They believe it will make a tangible difference. |
