Across the world severe weather events are now almost a constant feature You can see these on the news on a daily or weekly basis. Watch the news and understand what is happening knowing that severe weather may become worse with catastrophic effects if we don't act quickly now. Campaign for radical energy conservation now! |
In simple terms: Global warming puts more energy into the atmosphere and the oceans, which in turn causes increased intensity of convection currents. This increased energy cause greater intensity of severe weather effects, whether it be drought, flooding, mud slides, hurricanes, typhoons, forest fires, cyclones etc. The El Nino effect is not supernatural as many believe, but is greatly increased by global warming and affects the whole world, not just in the Pacific. | |||||||||||||||||

The size and effects of Hurricane Katrina is still effecting us, even as new hurricanes are having an effect on the world, like Hurricane Dean. However, other effects are being felt with wide spread flooding and tornadoes effecting Europe and stronger and stronger typhoons in Asia. Our weather in the UK, being either extreme rainfall or "hottest on record" is no longer an exception and for many our season seem to be shifting with snow fall in March and summer days in November. A recent assessment by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) projects that orangutans will be virtually eliminated in the wild within two decades if current trends continue. Orangutans are native to the tropical forests of Indonesia and Malaysia, where rapid forest loss and degradation are threatening orangutans and other species, including the Sumatran tiger, the Sumatran rhinoceros and the Asian elephant.
